About Us
The Grenfell Center is the result of contributions from three generations of Grenfells sharing their gifts with the world. The Grenfell Center provides an online home for many forms of professional and creative work including tutoring, games, poems, stories, essays, sermons, lessons, and songs.
The Reverend Doctor Clarine Coffin Grenfell (1910-2004) was a poet, English teacher, and United Methodist minister from Bangor, Maine. Clarine married another United Methodist minister, The Reverend Jack Grenfell, in 1938, and they had three children. Clarine founded her own publishing company, the Grenfell Reading Center, in 1980 after she retired from teaching.
Clarine’s eldest child, The Reverend Doctor John Millard Grenfell (1941-2018), was also a United Methodist minister from Maine and wrote more than 200 songs. John had three children with his first wife Linda Webster (1943-2008), founder of Little Miracles Country School, and two children with his second wife The Reverend Linda Littlefield Grenfell, another United Methodist minister from Maine. The Grenfell Music Center, founded after John’s death, is a way for John’s daughters to share his popular and beloved music with the world.
John’s eldest child, Tamarleigh Grenfell, is also a writer and teacher from Maine. Tamarleigh has been director of the Grenfell Reading Center since shortly before Clarine’s death and is the founder and director of the Grenfell Learning Center.
